General Terms

1. About Us & Agreement

Mandarin Laundry is a laundry and launderette service based in Oban, Scotland. By placing an order or using any of our services — in-store or through our website — you agree to these Terms and Conditions in full. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who does not comply.

2. Condition of Items

Please ensure all pockets are emptied before handing in your laundry. We accept no responsibility for damage caused by items left inside garments, including pens, coins, lip balm, keys, or electronics.

3. Collection & Unclaimed Items

Completed orders must be collected within 30 days of notification. Items left unclaimed after 90 days will be considered abandoned and may be donated to charity or disposed of to free up space.

4. Know Your Service — Customer Responsibility

All services are clearly described on our website, in-store signage, and at the point of booking. It is your responsibility to read and understand the service you are selecting before drop-off. Mandarin Laundry cannot be held responsible for any misunderstanding arising from failure to read the service description. If you are unsure which service is right for you, please ask a member of staff before placing your order.

5. Staff Conduct & Zero Tolerance Policy

We are a small, friendly team and ask that all customers treat our staff with courtesy and respect. Shouting, swearing, or abusive behaviour will result in the immediate cancellation of your order and removal from the premises. We operate a zero-tolerance policy with no exceptions.

6. Turnaround Times

We can always complete service washes within 3 hours during opening hours. We do not observe bank holidays with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. All other days operate as published on our website. Seasonal hours outside the main tourist season will be updated on our website and Google Maps.

7. Liability & Damage Claims

In the unlikely event that an item is damaged or lost during processing, our liability is limited to a maximum of ten times the charge made for cleaning that particular item, in line with UK fair trading guidelines for laundry businesses. Claims must be raised within 48 hours of collection. We are not liable for damage resulting from undisclosed pre-existing faults or wear.

8. Right to Refuse Service

Mandarin Laundry reserves the right to refuse service at our discretion, including where these terms have not been met or where items are considered unsuitable for processing.

9. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.


Service-Specific Terms

Each service below has its own specific rules, pricing, and conditions. Please read the section that applies to your order.

Service A — Self-Service Laundry (Mon–Sat, 8am–6pm)

You load and operate the machines yourself. Detergent and softener are included with every wash. Simply choose your machine size and pay.

You are responsible for selecting the correct machine size for your load. Mandarin Laundry accepts no liability for damage caused by overloading a machine.

Service B — Staff Wash & Dry (Mon–Sat, 8am–6pm)

Drop off your laundry and we will wash and dry it coin-wash style. Items are returned in a bag, straight from the dryer — not folded. Pillows, duvets, and bulky items are included if they fit in one machine.

If items fit into one machine, you pay the price for that machine size. XL items such as duvets are processed using extra-large machines.

Service C — Express Wash, Dry & Fold (Mon–Sat, 8am–6pm)

Full-service laundry for mixed loads. Price is based on total weight of your order and includes washing, drying, and folding. This service also covers small mixed loads of towels and linen up to 10kg total weight.

Service D — Commercial Laundry (Mon–Fri, 8am–6pm)

Laundry services for businesses with larger linen or towel loads. Simple per-kg pricing applies.

Minimum order: 10 kg of each linen or towel type per order. We reserve the right to decline orders that do not meet this minimum.

Mixed loads: For mixed loads of towels and linen between 10kg and 20kg, the full load is charged at the linen rate (£3/kg).

VAT: All commercial laundry prices exclude VAT.

Seasonal terms for Commercial Laundry (May – September): A 25% surcharge applies to same-day service during the seasonal period. Laundry must be pre-separated by you into Linen, Towels, and Personal Items before drop-off. An additional £10 charge applies if we are required to separate your laundry on your behalf.

Service E — Hotel Pickup & Return (7 days a week, collection 8pm–10pm)

We collect laundry from selected main Oban hotels, wash, dry, and fold it, then deliver it back within 24 hours. This service is available to guests staying at the listed hotels only.

How to place an order: Fill in the order form on our website. Pay by card online after submitting the form, or place cash inside your laundry bag.

Labelling: Place a note inside your bag with your full name, hotel name, and room number.

Photo: Take a photo of your laundry on your phone with one unique item clearly visible. This is for our system records only.

Drop-off: Leave your bag at hotel reception before 8pm on your chosen pickup date. Collection takes place between 8:00pm and 10:00pm.

Pickup timing: Orders submitted before 8pm will be collected the same evening. Orders submitted after 8pm will be collected the following evening.

Payment options: Online by card after submitting the order form, or cash in the bag. We accept Sterling (GBP), US Dollars (USD), and Euros (EUR).

Eligible hotels: The Royal Hotel, The Manor House Hotel, Dungallan House, The Kelvin, The Premier Inn, The Perle, The Columba Hotel, The Regent Hotel, The Great Western Hotel, Muthu Alexandra Hotel, The Oban Bay Hotel, Number 17, The Queens Hotel, No. 26 By The Sea, The Scot, Glencruitten Hotel, The Knipoch, Altavona.

It is your responsibility to ensure your laundry is left at reception before 8pm. We accept no liability for missed collections due to late drop-off or access issues. As items are not inspected in person at handover, you must disclose any known stains, damage, or special care requirements at the time of booking. We cannot be held responsible for damage resulting from undisclosed conditions. Delivery is made to the hotel address provided at booking — we are not responsible for non-delivery resulting from inaccurate information provided by the customer.
